  • “Is my child too sick to attend school?”  This is often a question we ask ourselves when the struggle may be whether keeping our kiddos home merits a day off of school or not. The Yolo County Health and Human Services, Communicable Disease Investigation and Control website has some great answers!  The DJUSD policy of keeping your child home with any of the following symptoms, will get your child well and keep other students and staff  from becoming ill :
    • Fever: If your child has a fever of 100 degrees or more, keep them home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of medicine.  If you child has a fever after 2:00pm, they may not attend school the following day.
    • Diarrhea/vomiting: Keep your child home for 24 hours past the last episode without the use of medicine.
    • Cough: A child with heavy cold symptoms, such as deep or uncontrollable coughing, or significant lack of energy, belongs at home, even without a fever.
    • Runny nose: If your child has a constant runny nose that they cannot maintain themselves, keep them home.
    • Sore throat: Keep your child at home and contact a medical provider for a severe sore throat with white spots in the back of the throat, with or without a fever.
    • Pink eye: Your child should be kept at home until evaluated by a medical provider.
    • Rash: Do not send a child with a rash to school until a medical provider has said it is safe to do so - especially with additional symptoms like itching, fever or ill appearance
    • Fluid-filled blisters of unknown origin: It is important to have these evaluated by a medical provider due to the risk of serious infection.
