This Day in History:

A Congressional Act in 1938 made November 11th a National holiday each year, “a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace, and to be thereafter celebrated, and known as ‘Armistice Day’”. Congress amended the bill in 1954, replacing ‘Armistice’ with ‘Veterans’ and November 11th has been known as Veterans Day ever since.

For Parents:

IMPORTANT: We’ve had several reports of cars going well over the speed limit on Eisenhower Ave. There are many students who walk and bike to school, as well as the neighbors who are out and about. Please adhere to speed limits and take extra precautions

NEW digital athletic packets!!  Please use this link to complete the paperwork required for your child to participate in sports at

Emerson/Da Vinci. https://bit.ly/2Acstfb Currently you will still need to pick up a physical form and an emergency card from the Emerson office.  Athletic forms need to be completed in order for students to participate in practice or games!  If you signed your student up online, please send them in to get the emergency card and the physical form.  If you have already turned in hard copies of the athletic forms, you do not need to do the online forms this year.

Students: Remember that phones need to be away during passing periods and at lunch. In classes, teachers will let you know whether you can use them. If you need to communicate with home or parents, come to either office. The goal is to use technology as a tool when necessary, and to not let it run your life. Talk to human beings during the school day

Remember, Eagles and Pandas - ASAP happens after school every day Monday through Thursday in the library, 3:30 - 5:00pm! Come get help with math, get organized, or finish that HW before you go home or to practice!

New And Noteworthy News

Dear DJUSD Families,

On this Veterans Day as we honor the many men and women who serve our country in the U.S. Military, we also recognize the heroic efforts of countless firefighters as well as the tireless efforts of many dedicated citizens in our community who are working to support the victims of the wildfires raging in our region as well as in the southern part of our state. Many in our school community have friends and loved ones who have been affected by the devastation.  DJUSD is partnering with the Davis Police Department to support relief efforts; the DJUSD District Office at 526 B Street will be a drop off point for supplies and donations for fire victims this week.

Air Quality in Davis

The fires also sending smoke and ash causing very poor air quality in and around our community.  While school will continue as scheduled, school administrators and staff will be monitoring the local Air Quality Index (AQI) regularly to determine safe levels of student activity each day.  In general, the next two days are predicted to be unhealthy for all groups, and so we we anticipate the following protocols for schools:

  • All outside activity will be cancelled or moved indoors until air quality improves

  • After school athletic practices and games at our junior high schools and Davis Senior High will be rescheduled or moved inside

  • During the school day, classroom doors will remain closed to ensure safe air quality

Reminders for Parents

Thank you for your patience as we navigate the air quality and make decisions to keep student health our priority.  We also recognize that many students may choose not to commute to school by bike or on foot, so there may be more vehicle traffic at drop off or pick up.  Please plan your schedule accordingly.

Finally, if your student has allergies, asthma, or other medical conditions that are aggravated by the poor air quality, please be sure to contact your school office so our staff can help to monitor student health and well-being.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your school office.

On behalf of our Board of Education and all of our students and staff, we thank Davis voters for your continued support of our schools and the passage of the Measure M school facilities bond, which will provide approximately $150 million to upgrade schools for safety and 21st century learning. Watch for more information about the Measure M Program and how we plan to update and improve our schools.
