SOCKTOBER!!

10/3/17

This month is SOCKTOBER! This is the third year the AVID classes have held a sock drive to assist the homeless community of Davis. Last year we collected almost 700 pairs of new or gently used socks and other toiletry items that were then donated to the Davis Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter. These items are desperately needed by people living homeless in our community. If you are able, please consider sending new or gently used socks and/or new toiletry items to Emerson’s AVID class, room A-1, between now and Thanksgiving break. It's a little gesture that makes a big impact in the life of someone living homeless in Davis in the winter.

October 12- Air Quality Update

Air quality in Davis has improved over the last 18 hours, but wildfires continue in our region. District and school leaders will continue to monitor conditions throughout the day and modify outside activities accordingly.  We will post any updates to Facebook and the DJUSD website news at www.djusd.net

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Today, October 11, experts have determined the air quality in Davis is unhealthy for all groups. The smoke from wildfires in our region continues to impact our city and county.

School remains in session but we continue to monitor the situation and the communications from the Yolo Solano Air Quality Management District and the County of Yolo.  Safety remains a top priority for our school community.  Individuals are encouraged to stay indoors with windows closed.   Students arriving at school this morning will be directed inside to multipurpose rooms or classrooms.  Students will remain indoors during recess, lunch and PE.  Athletic activities are being reviewed and updates will be available on the District and Davis website and Facebook throughout the day.

If you have a student with health concerns, please contact your school office.

Further questions about smoke conditions can be sent to Maria Clayton,  DJUSD Public Information Officer at mclayton@djusd.net.
